Hummingbird Speedway Race Report
For Immediate Release
Saturday, August 12th, 2017
By: Steven Curry

Fuzzy and Josh Fields return to victory lane for the 4th time together at Hummingbird Speedway.

A beautiful, sunshine-filled sky welcomed fans and drivers from all over the area, even New York, back to Hummingbird Speedway on Saturday night for a great night of racing. Drivers claiming checkered flags on the night included: Fuzzy Fields from Brockway in the Street Stocks, Paul Kot from Brockway in the BWP Bats Late Models, Josh Fields from Brockport in the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks, Doug Surra from Kersey in the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Models, and Randy Albert from Morrisdale in the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders.

Newcomer Scott Freer and Kyle Shannon led the Street Stocks trackside for their 20-lap feature event. Both Freer and Shannon were involved in seperate accidents before a lap was complete giving the front row to Rich Howell and Fuzzy Fields. Fields jumped out to the lead on the restart with Howell and Bruce Hartzfeld following behind as the race saw it's first extended run of the race. Fields continued to lead until a spin in turn 3 brought out another caution flag. On the following restart, Shannon had rebounded from the early accident and passed Hartzfeld for the third spot behind Fields and Howell. Fields continued to lead the way as the race passed the halfway mark. Another caution for a spin would bring the field back together for another restart. On the final restart, Fields jumped out to the lead once again with Howell, Shannon, and Hartzfeld following behind. There was no looking back for Fields in the closing laps as he held on to pick up the win. Howell, Shannon, Hartzfeld, and Jim Bloom rounded out the top 5. Brandon Connor and Fields won the heat races.

Jerry Redden and newcomer Mike Wonderling led the BWP Bats Late Models to the track for their 25-lap feature race. Redden jumped out to the early lead as Paul Kot and Chris Farrell drove their way through the field up to second and third as the laps clicked away. Redden continued to lead until a caution would come out, bringing the field back together. On the following restart, it was Redden, Kot, and Farrell the top 3. Kot and Farrell both worked their way around Redden soon after the restart as Redden fell back to third. A battle then began between Kot and Farrell as the laps continued to wind down. Farrell gave it his all in the final laps but didn't have enough as Kot held on to take the checkered flag. Farrell, Brady Wonderling, Redden, and Charles Powell Jr. rounded out the top 5. Farrell, Kot, and Powell won the heat races.

Dustin Challingsworth and Shawn Munoz led the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks trackside for their 15-lap feature event. After a quick caution flag on lap one, the race saw it's first extended green flag run of the night. Challingsworth jumped out to the lead on the restart with 4 or 5 cars behind, all battling for the second position. Challingsworth continued to lead for several laps until a caution for a slow car on the backstretch would bring the field back together once again. On the final restart, Challingsworth and hard-charger Josh Fields fought hard for the race lead for a couple laps until Fields completed the pass and took the lead. Then, Zack Gustafson worked his way around Challingsworth for the second spot as Fields began to pull away from the field. Fields went on to lead from the halfway mark to the end as he picked up the win. Gustafson, Challingsworth, Rich Anderson, and Andrew Stano rounded out the top 5. Tim Steis and Gustafson won the heat races.

Josh Henry and Matt Howell led the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Models to the track for their 20-lap feature. After two separate accidents that would involve both Henry and Howell, the front row would now see Jon Lee and Doug Surra take the top two spots. Surra jumped out to the lead on the restart as the race saw it's first extended green flag run of the night. Lee and Nick Erskine were running second and third behind Surra. After another caution flag, Surra and Lee battled side-by-side for a handful of laps for the lead as they started to pull away from the rest of the field before another caution would bring the field back together. On the restart, Surra and Lee battled once again until Surra began to pull away a little bit and start to check out on the field. Another caution bunched things up once again. Surra continued to lead until yet another yellow flag on the last lap. Lee didn't have enough for Surra on the final restart as he held on to claim the checkered flag. Lee, Erskine, Joe Leigey, and Howell rounded out the top 5. Erskine and Lee won the heat races.

Ryan Lippert and Eric Luzier led the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders trackside for their 12-lap feature event. Luzier took the lead over Lippert on the opening green flag as Randy Albert began to close in on the top two as the laps began to tick away. Albert caught the top two a couple laps later and got around Lippert to move into the second spot. He then set his sights on race leader Luzier and began to close in on his back bumper. Albert used the outside line to his advantage and got around Luzier just passed the halfway mark to take the lead. No one had anything for Albert in the final laps as the race went flag-to-flag as Albert picked up the win. Luzier, Lippert, John Campisano, and Jimmy Ogden rounded out the top 5. Ogden won the lone heat race.
