Hummingbird Speedway Race Report
For Immediate Release
Saturday, July 8th, 2017
By Steven Curry

Reynoldsville- Another beautiful, sun-drenched sky welcomed drivers and fans from all over the Central Pennsylvania region back to Hummingbird Speedway for Mid-Season Championship night. Fuzzy Fields from Brockway in the Street Stocks, Paul Kot from Brockway in the BWP Bats Late Models, Josh Fields from Brockport in the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks, Doug Surra from Kersey in the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Models, and Aaron Luzier from Clearfield in the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders each took the checkers and picked up a trophy in memory of Jack Salada. Fuzzy Fields would double-down on the night and win the June 24th make-up feature as Randy Albert picked up his first win of 2017 in the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinder make-up feature.

Fuzzy Fields and Bruce Hartzfeld led a packed field of Street Stocks trackside for their 20-lap feature race. Fields jumped out to the early lead but a quick lap one caution would setup a complete restart. Another couple cautions would keep things tight until the race finally saw a long green-flag run. Fields paced the way with Brian Rhed, Rich Howell, Brandon Connor, and hard-charging Bruce Hartzfeld, from the back to the top 5, following behind just before another caution would bunch things back up. On the ensuing restart, both Connor and Hartzfeld were able squeak past Howell to take 3rd and 4th as the VSI duo of Fields and Rhed took-off from the field. Hartzfeld then set his sights on Connor for the third spot and would take it just before another caution would bunch things up once again. On the final restart, Hartzfeld challenged Rhed for the second spot which allowed Fields to open up a big lead in the closing laps. Hartzfeld and Rhed battled hard for several laps until Hartzfeld took the spot with just a few laps left. Then, he set his sights on Fields for the lead but ran out of laps as Fields picked up the win. Hartzfeld, Rhed, Connor, and Howell rounded out the top 5. Fields, Hartzfeld, and Rhed won the heat races.

Denny Fenton and Chris Farrell led the BWP Bats Late Models to the track for their 25-lap feature event. Farrell jumped out to the early lead and started to pull away from the field as Paul Kot challenged Fenton for the second spot and took it just a few laps in. After a quick caution, the race would be ready for it's final restart of the night. On the final restart, Farrell received a lot of pressure from Kot as they battled hard for the race lead. It would take several laps until Kot would be able to clear Farrell and take the lead. Kot started to pull away from the field as Farrell received pressure once again but this time from Fenton for the 2nd spot. Fenton and Farrell battled hard for 2nd for a handful of laps until Fenton cleared Farrell to take the spot. There were no more challenges for the lead in the closing laps as Kot picked up the feature win. Fenton, Farrell, Derek Rodkey, and Kenny Schaffer rounded out the top 5. Fenton and Farrell won the heat races.

Tim Steis and Josh Fields led the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks trackside for their 15-lap feature race. Steis jumped out to the early lead on the initial start with Fields close behind. Steis would lead for a couple laps until Fields got to his inside and passed him on lap 3. Fields began to pull away from Steis and the rest of the field until a caution would fly bringing the field back together. On the restart, Fields and Steis continued to battle for the lead as newcomer, Tyrone Hendley, and Kylee Brown ran 3rd and 4th behind the leaders. After many laps of battling between Fields and Steis, Fields began to pull away from Steis. The race remained green the rest of the way as Josh Fields picked up the win. Steis, Hendley, Brown, and Sam Brink rounded out the top 5. Steis won the lone heat race.

Jon Lee and Tommy Kronenwetter made up the front row for the 20-lap Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Model feature. After a couple of quick cautions on the initial start, Lee would jump out to the early lead with Kronenwetter close behind. Another caution would keep things close. Then, on the restart, Lee pulled away from Kronenwetter and the rest of the field as Doug Surra began to challenge Kronenwetter for the 2nd spot. Surra battled with him briefly until he completed the pass just before another caution came out. Three more cautions would fly until the race would finally have a long green flag run. Lee continued to lead with Surra close behind as the race neared the 5 laps to go mark. A final caution flag would fly with 4 laps to go that would bunch the field up one more time. On the final restart, Surra used the bottom line to his advantage to pull up alongside Lee in the closing laps and battle with him for the lead. Surra would complete the pass for the lead on the final lap, taking a win away from Lee. Lee, Kronenwetter, Kevin Dickson, and B.J. Hudson rounded out the top 5. Lee and Kronenwetter won the heat races.

Zack Frantz and Aaron Luzier led a full field of Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders trackside for their 12-lap feature event. Luzier pulled out to the early lead with Frantz second but several early race caution flags kept things very close. On the following restart after the cautions, the field drove down into turns 1 and 2 and the hood on Frantz' car flew up on the windshield, causing him to go to the pits and get the hood removed. On the ensuing restart, Aaron and Eric Luzier were now battling for the lead until Frantz' car came to a rest along the outside wall retiring him for the evening. The next restart had once again both Luzier brothers battling for the lead with Randy Albert behind in 3rd and Jimmy Ogden 4th. A caution flew a few laps later for Ogden who was in a crash that would retire him for the evening. On the final restart, Eric Luzier gave his brother a valiant challenge for the lead but didn't have enough in the closing laps as Aaron Luzier picked up the win. Eric Luzier, Albert, Rick Feely, and Dylon Focker rounded out the top 5. Zack Frantz, Aaron Luzier, and Eric Luzier won the heat races.

Joe Stajnrajh Jr. and Rich Howell led the Street Stocks trackside for their June 24th make-up feature. Howell took the lead on the initial start and started to pull away slightly from the field. A couple laps later, Fuzzy Fields caught Howell and passed him for the lead just a handful of laps in. Fields began to pull away from Howell and the rest of the field until a caution would bunch the field back together. On the ensuing restart and following laps, Fields would pace the field as both Brian Rhed and Brandon Connor got around Howell to move into 2nd and 3rd respectively. But no one had anything for Fields as he would go on to win his second feature of the night. Rhed, Connor, Howell, and Rosman rounded out the top 5.

Adam Gee and Eric Luzier led the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders to the track for their June 24th make-up feature race. Luzier took the lead on the initial start and built a bit of a lead over Gee and the rest of the field. Randy Albert started to track down Luzier as the laps continued to click away. Albert caught Luzier a few laps later and battled with him for the lead. Albert completed the pass for the lead on Luzier a couple laps later and began to pull away from Luzier and the rest of the field. Nobody had anything for Albert in the closing laps as he went on to pick up his first win of 2017. Luzier, Gee, Aaron Luzier, and Daniel Clark rounded out the top 5.
