Hummingbird Speedway Race Report
For Immediate Release
Saturday, June 10th, 2017
By Steven Curry

Reynoldsville- A sun-drenched sky greeted a packed grandstand and a full pit area at Hummingbird Speedway for the fourth race of the 2017 season. Two drivers returned to victory lane for the second time this season including: Fuzzy Fields from Brockway in the Street Stocks and Tim Steis from St. Marys in the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks. And three drivers took their first trip to victory lane including: Chris Farrell from Clearfield in the BWP Bats Late Models, Doug Surra from Kersey in the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Models, and Aaron Luzier from Clearfield in the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders.
Jon Lee and Doug Surra led a full field of Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair Semi-Late Models trackside for their opening 20-lap feature. After a quick caution on lap one, Jon Lee would take the lead on the following restart with Surra chasing behind in second. Another caution would follow several laps later bringing the field back together. On the ensuing restart, Surra used the outside line to his advantage and charge passed Lee to take the lead and pull away for several laps until a spin in turn four bunched the field up once again. Surra and Lee raced hard for the lead on the following restart as Randy Sterling took the third spot from Kevin Dickson. Surra held on to the lead until yet another caution brought the field back together. On the final restart, Lee gave Surra one last valiant effort to get passed him but came up just short as Surra held on to pick up his first win at Hummingbird this season. Lee, Sterling, B.J. Hudson, and Dickson rounded out the top 5. Lee, Surra, and Joe Leigey won the heat races.
Rich Howell and Brandon Connor led the Street Stocks track-side for their 20-lap feature. Connor jumped out to the early lead as Fuzzy Fields got around Howell for the third position but a quick caution would bunch everyone back up. After another quick caution, Fields would work his way around Connor for the lead on the restart and start to pull away a little for several laps until another caution would reset everything. Connor gave Fields a hard charge on the restart as Josh Frantz, who had to start scratch on the field because of his feature win last week, passed Howell for the third spot as the race reached the halfway mark. Fields continued to set the pace and pull way slightly from the rest of the field on his way to picking up his second win of 2017. Connor, Frantz, Howell, and Jim Bloom rounded out the top 5. Fields and Connor won the heat races.
Wendell Pinckney and Dan Smeal led a full-field of BWP Bats Late Models to the track for their 25-lap feature. After an opening lap caution, Smeal would work his way around Pinckney to take the top spot. Another caution would fly and force another restart. Smeal would pull away slightly on the restart as Chris Farrell got passed Pinckney to take second as he set his sights on Smeal. A few laps later, Farrell would battle with Smeal for a handful of laps until Farrell slid past on the low side to take the lead. On a later restart, Pinckney spun out while running in third handing Steven Scaife the third spot behind Farrell and Smeal. A hard-charging Paul Kot, who started 13th because of his feature win last week, got around Scaife to take third just before another caution would tighten things up once again. Kot would get around Smeal on the restart and take second as Farrell took off once again as the race neared it's closing laps. Several cautions would highlight the final couple laps while Denny Fenton worked his way around Scaife for the third spot. The several late-race cautions never phased Farrell as he held on to pick up his first win of 2017. Kot, Fenton, Scott Alvetro, and Rod Phillips rounded out the top 5. Farrell, John Wayne Weaver, and Paul Kot won the heat races.
Jim Challingsworth and Dustin Challingsworth led the Sunny 106.5 FM Pure Stocks trackside for their 15-lap feature. Dustin Challingsworth took the lead on the initial start until a caution for a spin in turn 2 bunched things up. On the following restart, Tim Steis gave Dustin a challenge for the lead and would take the top spot just before another caution would fly. On the final restart, a hard-charging Josh Fields, who started at the back because of his feature win last week, battled with Dustin for the second spot and took it as he then set his sights on the race leader Steis. Fields would close on Steis as the laps ran out and give him a hard charge for the lead. After laps of battling, it was Steis holding on to pick up his second win of the 2017 season. Fields, Dustin Challingsworth, Bruno Mowery, and Jim Challingsworth rounded out the top 5. Steis and Dustin Challingsworth won the heat races.
Zack Frantz and Jimmy Ogden led the Aaron's of DuBois Front-Wheel Drive Four-Cylinders to the track for their 12-lap feature. After a quick caution for a spin in turn two, Frantz took the early lead as Randy Albert and Aaron Luzier challenged Ogden for the second spot. Another couple quick cautions would lead to several cars retiring for the evening including race leader, Zack Frantz. That handed the lead to Aaron Luzier and second to Ogden. On the final restart, Ogden took the lead from Luzier shortly until Luzier fought back on the outside to take the lead right back. There was no looking back for Luzier as he would lead the rest of the way and pick up his first win of the 2017 season. Ogden, Matt Mowery, Mike Mayhew, and Dustin Kemp rounded out the top 5. Eric Luzier and Aaron Luzier won the heat races.
